Annie at the Alexandra

3rd April-15th April 2023

Annie has to be one of our favourite family musicals.  It is filled to the brim with much loved songs including the wonderful "hard knock life".  It was a real treat to see it at the Alexandra.

Set in 1930s New York during The Great Depression, brave young Annie (played by the brilliant Zoe Akinyosade) is forced to live a life of misery and torment at Miss Hannigan’s (played by Craig Revel-Horwood) orphanage. Determined to find her real parents, her luck changes when she is chosen to spend Christmas at the residence of famous billionaire, Oliver Warbucks. Spiteful Miss Hannigan has other ideas and hatches a plan to spoil Annie’s search…

Craig Revel-Horwood plays a very convincing Miss Hannigan.  He manages to get just the right amount of humour and menace that keeps you captivated throughout.  His singing and dancing is a real treat to see. Another stand out performance comes from Annie played by Zoe Akinyosade.  Her singing and acting abilities were incredibly impressive for someone so young and inspiring to see for the children in the audience.
