Same Same…But Different is an exciting new family show at the Hippodrome.  The name of the show is inspired by the well-known Anglo-Asian phrase ‘same, same…but different’, meaning “Yes, something kind of similar, but not the exact same thing.”  The show explores the idea of belonging and the fear of being different through dance (including Kathak, Contemporary and Street), live music and physical storytelling.

We were very intrigued to be invited along to see Same Same but Different.   We weren't sure what to expect as the synopsis didn't give much away!  When we arrived at the theatre we were first aware that there wasn't much on the stage apart from a white background.  This felt brave as there was nowhere to hide and no distractions.  All eyes would therefore be on the performance.  There was no need to worry though as we were spell bound by the actors as soon as they came onto stage.  What we found most impressive was the fact that there was no talking just movement and music yet we experienced so many different emotions throughout the performance.  My boys belly laughed throughout which always fills my heart with joy.  For myself I found the performance really emotional in a world where difference can be seen as a threat Same Same but Different celebrated the differences and highlighted the similarities.  A real must see!

Same Same but Different runs until 23rd February.  To book your tickets follow the link.
