Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Birmingham Hippodrome

7th April-16th April 2022

The brand-new big budget production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has come to Birmingham Hippodrome for two weeks only.  We were lucky enough to see it and what a night it was.  The show contained all the classic songs that we all know and love but with a new vibrancy that is impossible not to immediately fall in love with.

The show stars Alexandra Burke as a narrator, Jason Donovan as a Pharaoh and Jac Yarrow as Joseph.  All performed their roles brilliantly but the real stand out performance came from Alexandra Burke who put on a spell binding performance.  She showed amazing vocal skills, dancing, acting and excellent comedy timing.

The set design was as flamboyant as we had hoped for.  The golden palace that housed the Pharaoh, played by Jason Donovan was particularly spectacular.  The palace contained giant Horus figures and golden walls which were in stark contrast to the muted colours of the Canaan desert.

It's impossible to choose a stand out moment from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  There are so many classic songs that come from this show and so many different genres of music.  There really is something for everyone.  The show ends with a medley of the biggest hits which had the whole audience up dancing.  It was a joyful end to a wonderful evening at the Hippodrome.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat would make a wonderful Easter family treat.  For more information and tickets follow the link.
