This October Half Term we have you covered.  We have carefully selected activities for you to do everyday of the holiday.

Day 1 Half Term Inspo:

Spooky Maze and Pumpkins at Lichfield Maize Maze

Follow the new Halloween trails around the Maize Mazes – a perfect spooky and autumnal outdoor activity for all of the family to enjoy!  Find the hidden clues throughout the mazes to complete the new spooky Halloween trails. Afterwards, either choose a ready-picked pumpkin to take home, or for the more adventurous, grab a wheelbarrow and take a walk through the spooky sunflower field up to the hidden pumpkin patch where you can pick your own pumpkin – hundreds await of all shapes and sizes.

The Dog with two Dads Theatre production at MAC

Bizarre Bugs and Creepy Crafts at Botanical Gardens 

24th October 2022

Crawl down to the Botanical Gardens to meet some spooky specimens with our animal handler experience, including stick insects and hissing cockroaches!  With the days getting colder, help make some tasty winter snacks for the birds during Halloween Craft Sessions!

Family Workshop | Celebrate the Seasons: Illuminated Calendars at the Barber Institute

Come along to the Barber this October Half Term to celebrate the seasons and create illuminated calendar leaves!  Inspired by the autumn exhibition Peasants and Proverbs: Pieter Brueghel the Younger as Moralist and Entrepreneur, families are invited to invent an annual calendar filled with exciting events, whether fantastical festivals or seasonal occasions. Draw, paint, cut and stick to create colourful and imaginative mixed-media artworks.

Day 5 Half Term Inspo:

Museum of the Moon at Lichfield Cathedral

26th October 2022

Where? Lichfield Cathedral, WS13 7LD

Marvel at this stunning artwork of the moon, suspended in the Nave of Lichfield Cathedral.  Measuring seven metres in diameter, the moon features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface.  From Wednesday 12 October and Tuesday 18 October 10:00-12:00
Come along for out-of-this-world stories and lovely lunar crafts for small fingers under the moon!

Day 6 Half Term Inspo:

Autumn Activities at Martineau Gardens 

27th October 2022

Da7 7 Half Term Inspo:

Spooky Science Night at the Thinktank Museum

28th October 2022

​

Where? Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum, Millennium Point, B4 7XG

How much? £8 Adult and £10 Child

​

The Thinktank will be turned into a party for all spooky scientists, ghoulish ghosts and weird wizards.  There will be creepy live science demonstrations in a Monster Mayhem family show.  Animal handlers from ZooLab.  A spooky Silent Disco.  Chances to get hands on with some spooky science and lots, lots more.​

Day 8 Half Term Inspo:

​

‘Witches and Fairies’ Spooktacular Trail at Manor Farm Fruits

29th October 2022

​

Where? Manor Farm Fruits, Watling Street, B78 3DF

How much?  Children £5.50 and Adults £2.50

​

Using the map provided, you need to make your way around each of the locations and answer questions along the way but do watch out for the Witches and The Fairies! Your navigational skills and power of observation will be tested so that you can solve the clues in order to decipher the ‘Final Answer’!

Day 9 Half Term Inspo:

Halloween Fun at the Coffin Works

30th October 2022

​

Where? The Coffin Works, 13-15 Fleet Street, Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham, B3 1JP

How much? FREE entry for children in costume (must be accompanied by a paying adult)

​

Where better to spend Halloween than Birmingham’s Coffin Works Museum! This old Victorian factory packed with coffin fittings, and a few coffins, will be all decked out to celebrate the spooky season in style.

 

Look out for our resident witch, Seraphina, who will be showing willing children (and adults!) how to brew a special potion! Perhaps you would like to fly, or turn someone into a frog? Well, this is the sorcery class for you. Watch lotions and potions change colour and magically shimmer right in front of your eyes!
